Anwil started the game very well, as Corsley Edwards scored 10 points in the first half. The fans and the experts had been waiting for his battle against the center of Zastal, Gani Lawal. Both big guys were unofficially named the best players at their position in the league. Even though Lawal was doing his best, he couldn’t stop Edwards and Anwil had a 23:19 lead after the first quarter.
However, Lawal wasn’t the most important Zastal’s offensive option tonight. From the very beginning the hosts presented very team basketball as many players added their bricks to the victory. Lawal had eight points and ten rebounds in the first half, while Walter Hodge and Piot Stelmach did their best too and the team of Zielona Gora firstly cut the lead and secondly worked for its own one as they were winning 41:37 after the break.
The most crucial moment of the game took place just after the sides change. Anwil came out of the locker room too much lax and the hosts used that passiveness. Stelmach and Hodge scored nine points altogether and Zastal increased their lead to nine, 50:41. Having problems with activating other players except for Edwards, Anwil lost control of the game and the guests were leading 59:48 after the third quarter.
Anwil were trying to come back to the game but they had big problems with execution and moreover, they lost the rebounds. Finally Zastal won the match 77:63 and simultaneously broke the Anwil’s streak of the last six wins. Stelmach finished the battle with 17 points and Lawal added 15 with 14 rebs. Edwards had 26 points and 11 rebs for Anwil.
