LKS Lodz made the biggest surprise of the first round of Tauron Basket Liga and beat Anwil Wloclawek 89:71. The hosts controlled the game more or less from the very beginning until the last seconds of the fourth quarter and deserved to win the match.
The hosts started to shine at the very beginning as Jermaine Mallet made two triples and Bartlomiej Szczepaniak added another one so that LKS were winning 28:20 after first ten minutes. It is worth adding that Mallet had 13 of 28 points in that period of time.
Efficient playing of the hosts irritated Anwil which dominated between the ninth and fifteenth minute of the game. Corsley Edwards used his strength, some easy baskets were added by John Allen and the guests equalized the game to a 33:33 result. Moreover, Dardan Berisha had a great impact on the team’s offense as he dished some nice assists.
Unfortunately that part of the game turned out to be the last well-played by Emir Mutapcic’s players. B.J. Holmes, the point guard of LKS, found himself on the court and made the game back in the hosts’ hands. Finally, eight triples in the first half gave the newcomer easy leading 50:44 before the second half.
Allen and Berisha were trying to tip the balance after the break but their effort turned out to be not enough. Anwil scored their first points in the third quarter when LKS were leading by twelve, 56:44 and although Krzysztof Szubarga increased the lead to just five (53:58), the hosts were able to stop the pursuit and everything was clear at the beginning of the fourth quarter - when Krzysztof Sulima scored in a low-post, LKS had a margin of fourteen, 70:56.
