Anwil Wloclawek saved the situation in the fourth quarter despite the fact Trefl was leading by six just only two minutes left to the final whistle so the fans in the Champions Court had to sit once again and watch an over time. In that period of the game the hosts didn’t let the chance go away and lastly won 79:75.
Filip Dylewicz opened the game very easily, as he made a lay-up and a triple in his first two actions and Trefl Sopot took a 7-0 lead. Anwil had big problems in offence as the players weren’t able to make any open shots. First points were made by Andrzej Pluta after four minutes, but when Lukasz Majewski scored six in a very short time so the hosts came back to the game. However, Dylewicz made 12 of 19 points of his team in the first quarter so the guests were leading 19:16 and even 22:16 at the beginning of the second one when Marcin Stefanski made two plus one.
The headcoach of Anwil, Emir Mutapcic, had been trying to find his best five on the court and he managed to do it in the middle of the second quarter as he put Majewski, Stipe Modric and Seid Hajric or Scott Morrison on the floor at the same time. Anwil’s frontcourt built the defensive wall in low post so they were able to play more fluently on the other side of the floor and they cut Trefl’s lead even before the break – 28:27.
When Andrzej Pluta made his first three-pointer in the game, and Chris Thomas added a point from the free throw line, it seemed that Anwil filled the sails because they were winning by five, 44:39. However, Filip Dylewicz and Dragan Ceranic made some easy baskets so the hosts were leading by only one after thirty minutes, 48:47.
In the last, as everyone thought, period of the game both teams raised to their best, focused first on defense and struggled with many problems. Trefl lost Stefanski and Harrington who made their fifth fouls, while Anwil missed a lot of three point shots and they also had some rotation trouble due to the Dardan Berisha’s injury before.
Lawrence Kinnard turned out to be the guy who made the first breakout as he scored five points in a row, when only three minutes left, including an amazing more than seven meter long triple. Trefl was winning at that moment 63:57 but they couldn’t stay focused until the end and let the hosts tie the game as Chris Thomas scored six points and Seid Hajric added a lay-up – 65:65.
All is not lost that is delayed – like a common proverb says. Giedrius Gustas drew two fouls and made four free throws and the guests took a 69:65 lead. Anwil had its chances but weren’t able to find the way to the baskets, while Lithuanian playmaker added two more points after penetrating. D.J. Thompson was trying to save the situation but his triple wasn’t enough because Dylewicz and Pawel Kikowski made shots from the free throw line easily and Trefl finally won the game after an over time 69:75.
