Tony Weeden is one of the foreign basketball players who feel extremely well in Polish League. After playing in Polpharma Starogard Gdanski, Slask Wroclaw, Basket Kwidzyn, American guard headed for Anwil Wloclawek and it will be his first opportunity to show his amazing offensive skills in the team from a higher level. The headcoach Dainius Adomaitis is expecting from him that he will able to take care of scoring points.
The Polish period of Weeden’s professional career started in 2008 when Polpharma brought him to the team. He easily became one of the best shooters in the league so next season he landed in Slask Wroclaw. Unfortunately, he never appeared on the floor in Slask jersey due to the fact the team went bankrupt. Nevertheless, he stayed in Poland and accepted an offer from Basket Kwidzyn. The headcoach Andrej Urlep made his play to a higher level in both: offense and defense, as the player finished the season with the average of 14,5 ppg.
Next the player started travelling between Polish league and others and he twice wore Polpharma jersey. In the 2009/2010 he noted 15,8 ppg. while in the 2011/2012 season he had 15,4 ppg. and 3 apg. However, he didn’t finish the competition in Poland because in January the club accepted his leaving to Italian Cimberio Varese. There he needed to acclimate in new background and new role in a team (he wasn’t the main scorer) but he fulfilled the expectations – 8,6 ppg. and 2,4 rpg.
– For me, the most important thing is the Weeden knows the league and we know him and we know what we can expect from him. Moreover, we received good reviews from Italy and from Andrej Urlep, who coached him in Kwidzyn. Not only can he score the points, but also he is able to defend as good as make shots. I am sure he will open us many opportunities in offense and will make a progress – said the headcoach Dainius Adomaitis.
