Corsley Edwards had big problems with an execution at the very beginning due to the hard defense from Tomasz Kesicki and Darrell Harris and that meant the big problems of the whole team as well. The guests weren’t able to find another idea how to put the ball in the rim so in the first quarter they scored only 12 points.
Moreover, Jessie Sapp, Reginald Holmes and Kesicki continued to play efficiently in the second quarter and the hosts were leading 37:34 before the break. That result would have been worse for Anwil if Dardan Berisha hadn’t been at his best tonight. Polish NT member scored 17 points in just first two quarters.
Anwil started the third part of the game easily, winning 40:37 but such a good period sent the hosts sleep and Kotwica used that passiveness. Jessie Sapp shined so much and he was a key player in the offense while Oded Brandwein and Kesicki were trying to keep pace and Kotwica increased their lead to a 53:42 result. Moreover, they were leading 59:48 just a couple of minutes later.
Nevertheless, that was one of the last efficient moment of Kotwica. Nick Lewis, Lukasz Majewski and Krzysztof Szubarga decreased the lead to just four and the head coach Emir Mutapcic helped his players making two decisions. Firstly he let Corsley Edwards come back to the game and secondly he told his team to play zone defense. That two factors turned out to be crucial.
Although he didn’t present well at the beginning, Edwards unblocked himself and scored seven points in the fourth quarter while Berisha made the sixth triple just three minutes to go (69:65). Finally Anwil let Kotwica score only 11 points in that quarter and winning it 22-11, won the game 76:70.
