Anwil Wloclawek was leading until the break by seven but Trefl Sopot scored 50 points in the second half and finally beat the guests at Ergo Arena 84:78. Trefl is leading 1-0 in a series.
Anwil started the game so well especially in defense and prevented Trefl players from making easy baskets. The guests played very intensively, the head coach Emir Mutapcic rotated his players and the first quarter finished with a 21:14 result for Wloclawek team. Unfortunately, the hosts got back their effectiveness, made a run 10-0 and were leading by three in the middle of the second period of the game.
However, Andrzej Pluta turned out to be the guy who took a responsibility of scoring points. Almost 37-year-old veteran made a three-pointer at first, then added some jumpers and Anwil was winning 41:34 before the break.
Some weeks ago both teams competed in a regular season game at Ergo Arena and the last season runner-up was also leading after two quarters. Actually, something went wrong after the teams changed sides and finally Trefl won. And the same happened in the quarterfinal first match.
Adam Waczynski made five points at the beginning of the third quarter and it was clear that the hosts didn’t give up. Moreover, they found their rhythm and, thanks to Lawrence Kinnard’s two triples, took a 51:48 lead. Anwil players were trying to save the situation but Trefl was always one step further.
Kinnard made two more three points shots (63:56) while Dragan Ceranic drew some fouls. However, the guests, after a triple of Lukasz Majewski, were even able to almost cut the whole lead (77:74) but lastly Lorinza Harrington and Pawel Kikowski didn’t miss the free throws and Trefl won the first quarterfinal game.
