Anwil started the competition very badly, defeating to Russian Enisey Krasnoyarsk 66:83, despite competing on a level playing field until the middle of the third quarter. The players of Emir Mutapcic seemed a bit stressed at the very beginning but by the time, they played more effectively and were losing by a point until the break, 36:37. Unfortunately, Lonny Baxter turned out to be a clutch player who made the difference scoring 23 points and finally leading his team to the victory.
Having been enraged, Anwil showed its potential in the second game against Torpan Pojat Helsinki. The opponent was able to face the Polish team only in the second quarter but they did not exist in the other parts of the game. Pre-eminently the third quarter was a display of offensive skills of Anwil and Corsley Edwards especially. American center gave 12 points in that period of the game and finally ended it with a great double-double of 35 points and 13 rebounds.
32-year-old experienced guy turned out to be the best Anwil scorer in all four games, as he had 25 points against Krasnye Krylia Samara and 19 (and 12 rebounds) against Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk but unfortunately Anwil lost that two matches and did not get a promotion to the group stage of VTB United League. The imparity, notably financial one, between Polish team and the others rendered to be insuperable.
Seid Hajric and John Allen did their best as they proved they are going to enact a key role in the team during the long season. Bosnian-Polish forward, who hadn’t played in the first two games due to the injury, scored 13 points averagely and American added 10. Moreover Krzysztof Szubarga probably nailed his place in the team as he scored 8,5 points and 4 assists while Dardan Berisha added 9 points in each game.
It is worth adding that Anwil competed in the qualification stage with only two experienced big guys (Edwards, Hajric) and two completely fledgling (Michal Pietrzak, Wojciech Glabas).
