Anwil Wloclawek lost against Polpharma Starogard Gdanski in an away game 70:74. The lack of stability and constant playing and especially a total indolence in the second quarter turned out to be the reasons of the defeat.
Anwil players were clearly leading only at the beginning of the game when they winning by seven, 18:11. Nikola Jovanovic and Paul Miller were very active, scoring respectively seven and six points. Unfortunately the end of the first quarter belonged to the hosts which were able to equalize the match to a 20:20 and later, they started the show.
American Brian Gilmore, who is only a backup for the starting five power forward and center, made a triple suddenly when he came on the floor and moreover he added another seven points through the second quarter and the hosts were leading by thirteen, 45:32, before the break.
If only Anwil had played the whole game like they played in the third period of the match, the final result would be totally different. Debuting in Wloclawek team after four years, Seid Hajric was dominating in low-post while Lukasz Majewski, Andrzej Pluta and D.J. Thompson scored behind the 6,75 m line and the guests cut the lead to only five, 50:55. However, when American point guard made another three-pointer and Majewski made a jumper, the game equalized to 55:55 and 59:59 some minutes later.
Unfortunately, the crucial moments of the game belonged to Polpharma’s players only. Brian Gilmore answered with his third triple, Michael Hicks scored five points (his only points in the match) and the hosts finally stole the win.
