Ryan Wright turned out to be a big man that the headcoach Dainius Adomaitis is going to trust him to score in low-post and grab rebounds. 25-year-old Canadian center has signed a one-year-contract with the team.

The headcoach Dainius Adomaitis wished to have a combative and dynamic big man who would be able to grab rebounds at the center position successfully. The search took some time because the coaching staff wanted to find the best option – eventually Canadian player Ryan Wright was chosen.

Before he started his professional career, Wright played for two universities in the NCAA league: UCLA and Oklahoma. He never got a chance to prove his skills – even in his senior season he spent  averagely only 18 minutes on the floor, having 4,4 ppg. and 4,3 rpg. Despite his mediocre statistics, he didn’t stop thinking about the NBA and took part in some summer scrimmages but unsuccessfully.

This is why the center headed for Europe and landed in Turkish second division team – Ormansport Ankara – where he shone finishing the season with 16,8 ppg. and 9,3 rpg. Then he moved to Venezuela and China (more than 20 ppg. and 13 rpg.) so altogether he played for three clubs in his first professional season. The same happened in his sophomore professional year. Wright started in Ukraine but left it shortly for Mexico, while eventually appeared in Taiwan. Playing for Mobile Leopards, he averaged 19,3 ppg. and 12,9 rpg.

In Anwil he will play as a center like Seid Hajric. – I am sure they both will mesh as well as I am sure Ryan will match to our idea. He is extremely active, even dynamic, and mobile so he can easily play pick and rolls and rebound. Moreover, he seems to be aggressive on the floor and that’s what I like. My team is obligated to play hard – said the headcoach Dainius Adomaitis.

Lithuanian coach doesn’t worry about Wright’s past and his, alleged, willingness to change teams during a season. – According to information that I had collected before we signed a deal, Wright wants to stabilize and find a place where he could develop. We agreed on one-year-deal and I am sure both sides will keep it – added the coach.
