50-year-old Emir Mutapcic started to be a coach in 1993 but first of all he was coaching youth teams of TuS Lichterfelde. In 1997 he unexpectedly was named the head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team. Mutapcic took a chance and even one year later Svetislav Pesic hired him to be his assistant in Alba Berlin. After two years of learning under Pesic’s wings, he decided to start his own professional coaching career.
Thanks to three Bundesliga championships (2000, 2001 and 2003) and two German Cups (2002 and 2003) in only four years, Mutapcic confirmed everyone in the belief that he is one of the best coaches of a new generation in Europe. His successes were appreciated after that and the authorities of the Bundesliga Basketball League honoured him as the best coach in Germany.
In 2005 Bosnian coach took a charge of German U-20 team and he also moved to Energy Braunschweig (later New Yorker Phantoms). He has been staying in the club for four years but he was not able to achieve any trophies.
A new coach of Anwil signed a deal until the rest of the season with the team of Wloclawek but there is an option of extension for another season in the paper. Mutapcic will appear in Poland on Thursday’s evening, while tomorrow he will be officially presented on special press conference. On Saturday he will make his debut as a head coach of Anwil against the leader of Polish Tauron Basket Liga, Energa Czarni, at Slupsk.
