After Milija Bogicevic's departure, Anwil Wloclawek had had no choice but pick up the gauntlet and find another headcoach. The club had has eventually nominated Mariusz Niedbalski at this position on a one-plus-one contract.
Mariusz Niedbalski is one of the most promising coaches of a young generation in Poland. This 37-year-old coach is a graduate from the Academy of Physical Education and Sports in Katowice. After his academic experience, he started his professional career on the bench, firstly in lower divisions of the competition in Poland: in the clubs from Zabrze and Tychy. His major career built up a head of steam after Jacek Winnicki brought him to his coaching staff of PGE Turow Zgorzelec in 2011.
He had a role of an assistant in Zgorzelec for a year and later moved to Trefl Sopot, after Zan Tabak’s offer seemed to be entirely irrecusable. Unexpectedly, Tabak left Sopot after two months and the bosses of the club decided to give the chance to Niedbalski. Inexperienced at this position, young coach stabilized the play of the team that finished the runner-up before the play-offs but eventually lost in the quarter-final stage against AZS Koszalin.
In spite of that fact, Niedbalski kept his spot in the coaching staff but returned to the role of an assistant. Trefl completed the 2013/2014 season with a success, landing third with bronze medals on their necks.
Moreover, Niedbalski has been coaching Poland NT U-20 since 2011. Before that, he had been working with teams of U-16 and U-18.
Niedbalski has signed a one-plus-one deal. If both sides are satisfied after the upcoming season, the contract will be prolonged automatically.
Simultaneously, Marcin Wozniak keeps his position on the bench. The 33-year-old previous assistant will still be a part of a team, being responsible for assisting and scouting.
