Anwil Wloclawek was a favourite of the first round Polish Cup game as the team of Milija Bogicevic battled against the Polish newcomer of the A1 division, Start Gdynia.
Despite the fluent beginning - the guests made six triples in the first quarter especially thanks to Krzysztof Szubarga who was able to find the basket three times. Such a high efficiency let Anwil take a 31:18 and it seemed that nothing bad may happen to the guests.
Nothing further from the truth, as the popular saying says - the team of David Dedek was showing its ambition and engagement and they had a player who was making a difference in the post. Big guy Robert Rothbart scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds in the whole game and his play helped the hosts get back the rhythm.
In the crunch-time, Start was even able to cut the whole Anwil's lead and playing simply in offense, took its first lead of 69:66 and 76:72 a couple of moments later.
Nevertheless, the ending of the game showed that one thing which Start lacks is experience - something characterises Anwil. Firstly Lukasz Seweryn and secondly Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz made three-point shots after team work and Anwil saved a tiny margin before a return game which will hold next Wednesday in Wloclawek.
