Anwil Wloclawek were leading by eighteen points after ten minutes of the Sunday’s battle and it seemed that nothing can change in the next stages. Krzysztof Szubarga controlled the offense absolutely while Corsley Edwards’ performance was the world-class. American canter got nine points and five rebounds in just eight minutes and Anwil were leading 24:6.
Unfortunately, such a high margin sent the hosts to sleep and Polpharma used that passiveness. Tony Weeden scored eight points and the guests cut the lead only to six (34:28) before the break, while Grzegorz Arabas added also eight at the beginning of the third quarter and there was a draw 36:36.
Anwil answered with a couple of triples but Weeden did the same and the Wloclawek team had only three points more (64:61) than the opponent in the middle of the last quarter.
Nevertheless, that was enough for the hosts tonight. Having been irritated, Anwil played extremely effective pressing defense, made some steals and finished some fast breaks easily. John Allen made four points, Dardan Berisha added another score and the lead increased to nine, 70:61. The head coach of Polpharma, Zoran Sretenović asked for a time-out but his pieces of advice didn’t work. Szubarga made a triple immediately, while Berisha stole the ball and drew a flagrant foul of Michael Hicks. What’s more Edwards proved his amazing skills as he blocked his opponent, had a steal and made two monster dunks and Anwil, making a run 17-0, were winning 81:61 just a minute to go. In that moment everything was clear.
