Anwil Wloclawek beat Kotwica Kolobrzeg 79:62 in the first New Year home game of the 19th round of Tauron Basket Liga. The hosts controlled the game from the very beginning and playing calmly in every minute saw the margin through.

Corsley Edwards had 7-for-11 from the field which gave him 14 points, while Nick Lewis and Seid Hajric each provided Anwil with a spark off the bench. American big guy had 13 points and six rebounds while Polish convalescent added eight points in 10 minutes on the floor and that is why the hosts won the game easily.

Oded Brandwein scored 16 points and Reginald Holmes added 15 for the guests but their efficiency didn’t bring any effect as well as the fact that Kotwica seemed to dominate near the basket. The team of Kolobrzeg won rebounds 37-28 but they weren’t able to score from the second-chance due to Anwil’s solid defense which stopped the opponent on 62 points only.

Anwil controlled the game from the very beginning as they were able to continually build their margin using a plenty of tactical solutions. Except for the frontcourt big men, Anwil were able to emphasize the basketball IQ of John Allen and the versatility of Lawrence Kinnard. The guard didn’t force to put himself on the foreground but it wasn’t an obstacle to score 13 points with 3-for-3 behind the arc while the forward started the first quarter with three rebounds, three steals, two points and a block.

The hosts led 40:31 just before the break and 58:48 after thirty minutes but Kotwica’s playmaker Jessie Sapp and above-mentioned Holmes were able to decrease the Anwil’s lead to only five, 62:57. However, that moment turned out to be a turning one because the last eight minutes Anwil won 17-5 and the whole game 79:62. The cooperation Edwards-Lewis and Hajric-Dardan Berisha did that margin.

A gee-whiz 20-year-old inexperienced Kamil Maciejewski took the opportunity of being a second playmaker due to the absence of Lorinza Harrington (leg injury) and played 11 minutes. He entered the game with an assist to Nick Lewis who made a triple while a couple of possessions later, Maciejewski noted a no-look pass to Bartlomiej Woloszyn in a fastbreak which made the attendance stand up. To sum up, he proved his great talent.
