Some days ago Tomasz Celej and the board of Anwil decided to terminate a deal by a mutual agreement. This situation is the result of the ailment which appeared in player’s foot in the past. However, nobody could predict that the leaving means also the retirement.
- I had been using a special insole in my shoe and it helped me a lot. However, there have been some problems since some time and the following loads could cause much bigger difficulties. So there is no sense to continue my career at the moment and it is more probably that my future connection with basketball will be limited to only sitting in front of a TV and watching games on the couch – said Celej in the official announcement.
33-year-old forward started his career in his home town Lublin in 1993. He played in Start and AZS until 2001 when he moved to Azoty Unia Tarnow for two years. Later he got some international experience playing for TBB Trier and three Hungarian clubs: Kecskemeti Univer (two times), Szolnoki Olaj and Soproni Sodrogok. In 2007 he returned to Poland and spent two seasons in Znicz Jaroslaw. Previous season Celej was a member of Start Lublin and next he joined Anwil.
The best period in Celej’s career was a 2007/2008 season when he averaged 20,6 ppg., 4,4 rpg. and 1,6 apg. Playing 12 minutes in 8 games in Anwil’s jersey, experienced forward added 2,3 ppg. and 1,8 rpg.
