Back to bad memories

In the past Trefl Sopot beat Anwil Wloclawek many times when both teams competed in the Hala Stulecia arena. On Sunday the competition took place in that place for the first time since a couple of years and unfortunately Anwil lost the game 70:77.

Anwil Wloclawek came to Sopot with the only one purpose - break the series of the previous two loses that took place against Asseco Gdynia and PGE Turow Zgorzelec. And the guests started the game really efficiently. The needed only a couple of minutes to reach a lead of eight, 10:2, just after the beginning of the battle. Unfortunately, it was also the highest Anwil's lead tonight and... the last in the game.

Not only could the hosts dimish the loss, but they also gained their own lead with the second quarter's beginning, when Lance Jeter made a triple. From that moment on, Trefl took a complete control on the situation on the court. The hosts played so smart and patient basketball as opposed to Anwil. The guests wanted to knock Trefl off the stride too quickly what caused a lot of turnovers. Only in the first half, Anwil had 14 mistakes made and it came as no surprise that they were losing 29:37.

After the break, Milija Bogicevic's team was trying to get back the rhythm and there were approaching the hosts step by step. Regrettably, since the middle of the second quarter, Anwil needed to compete not only against the opponents, but also against the bad luck. Keith Clanton was the first guy tonight who got injured and being not able to continue the game, had to sit on the bench. It was only a couple of minutes later when Dusan Katnic got injured as the second and he also turned out be out of the game for good.

In the meantime, Deividas Dulkys caught fire as he scored all of his 15 points after the break, but his performance didn't help. After his two free throws made, Anwil made the game tight (63:63) but it was the hosts that played more efficient basketball in the crunch-time. Lance Jeter made a triple, Pawel Leonczyk added two plus one and Adam Waczynski stamped the game thanks to the shot made just 40 seconds to go (75:70).

It was Anwil's third loss in a row. The Wloclawek team have never won in the 2014 year.
