The Rottweilers played well in the first half but they weren't able to keep such a high pace of the game after the break and Trefl Sopot gained the win 97:78. Despite the loss number six in the TOP6 stage, Anwil Wloclawek kept the fourth place before the play-offs that start on Thursday.
For the hosts, that game meant nothing. If, of course, it is possible in any sport to treat any game as unimportant. However, even if we say that all games have their prominence, that Sunday's battle against Anwil Wloclawek wouldn't change anything in the ranking. Nevetheless, the situation of the Rottweilers was a bit different - Anwil could have lost its fourth place before the play-offs, if two factors had taken place. If Anwil had lost against Trefl and Rosa Radom had beaten Stelmet. Anwil lost, but Rosa too. That meant the maintainence of the status quo before the play-offs.
Anwil played well only in the first half. What's more, the team of Milija Bogicevic played better in that period of the game than its opponents did. The guests had an idea of playing inside-outside and they executed that strategy without any problems. They finished the first quarter with a point-lead of 21:30 but after a run 9-0 at the beginning of the second quarter, they took the highest lead of all game, 30:22.
Jordan Callahan controlled the pace of the competition for Anwil as he scored some easy lay-ups and pushed the ball to the fast breaks as often as possible but it was Michal Sokolowski who dominated for the guests.
Polish swingman made 12 for his 20 points in the first half but it wasn't enough to sleep well because from the mid of the second quarter, Trefl started to find the rhythm. The headcoach Darius Maskoliunas was using a 12-men rotation and Anwil started to get exhausted. It was a full team effort for Trefl that they were able to cut the whole Anwil's lead even before the break (43:42). As it turned out later, the second quarter was just a preview for what was going to happen after the break. Trefl easily took the third quarter 21:11 and in the fourth period even increased its lead to about 20 points.
Eventually, Anwil lost 78:91 but as it was mentioned before, that game changed nothing. Anwil Wloclawek finished the TOP6 stage on the place they started this part of the season - the fourth - and that means the team will begin the quarterfinal games at home. The opponent is Rosa Radom, the team which Anwil has beaten three times in four games this season.
