– I know the working conditions in Wloclawek, I know what the fans expect and I’m aware of the fact that the club is currently on the hot seat. Nevertheless, I feel that I’m able to find a positive solution – said the newly hired coach Milija Bogicevic.
Serbian coach started his adventure with Poland in 1999, firstly working as an assistant of Miodrag Gajic in Bobry Bytom but finishing that season as a main boss of the team (he was only 27 then!). Later he disappeared from the Polish basketball stage for six years, coming back with Znicz Jaroslaw when the team got promoted to the A1 Polish division.
What is more interesting, Bogicevic didn’t spend much time in Jaroslaw as he was hired by Anwil Wloclawek just after the game in the 1. round of the season when the head coach Ales Pipan wanted to have him in the coaching staff. Serbian worked as his assistant for two years and later backed to working on his own, firstly in Polpharma Starogard Gdanski and later in PBG Basket Poznan.
Having Tony Weeden, Patrick Okafor and Lukasz Majewski in the roster, Bogicevic led Polpharma to the history biggest success – bronze medal in 2010.
At the moment, he is believed to be the guy who can change the team’s image which has been definitely dented after four loses in a row with Dainius Adomaitis on the bench.
– We hope that the coach Milija is capable of doing a great job here in Wloclawek and restoring good results of the team. The coach has the board’s unswerving support and a green light for everything in order to get back the team to proper shape – said the president of the club, Arkadiusz Lewandowski. The headcoach has already made his first decision – Marcin Wozniak and Andrzej Pluta will be his two assistants.
Bogicevic will face his first challenge on Saturday when the team will play against his former club, Polpharma Starogard Gdanski. – My biggest aim is to rebuild the team’s mental strength, because in my opinion it is our most serious problem. It seems the players have some kind of blockade which doesn’t let them play on the level they’re capable of – adds the headcoach.
It is worth adding that Krzysztof Szablowski’s contract was also terminated by a mutual agreement.
