The club Anwil Wloclawek announces the name of the new coach – a well-known 38-year-old Lithuanian Dainius Adomaitis takes the helm. – We are thinking about the future and we want to play on a high level – said the newly-nominated coach.
Even though last time Dainius Adomaitis didn’t achieve such a big success as he did with the team of Energa Czarni Slupsk a year ago, the vast majority of fans demanded his stay on the team. In the 2010/2011 season Lithuanian coach led Czarni to the second bronze medal in the club history, while the last year brought only the sixth position.
Nevertheless, the coach’s work ethic, attitude to the game and practices, his ambition and willingness to learn were noticed the managers from the other clubs. A few of them were trying him to sign a deal but Adomaitis has finally come to terms with the offer of Anwil Wloclawek.
Both sides agreed on signing a 1+1 contract which was sealed on the press conference in the presence of the media. Krzysztof Szablowski and Marcin Wozniak will be his assistants.
- It’s gonna be watershed for Anwil. We are starting the process of building a team which will get a two-year period of time before the board will expect the results. I am extremely satisfied with the fact that I was given a chance to build a long-term project – said Adomaitis.
Seid Hajric and Lukasz Majewski are, excluding younger players like Michal Sokolowski and Kamil Maciejewski, the players who have got contracts that can be easily extended if the coach accepts them. – I will surely consider them in the context of the next season, however firstly I need to consult my thoughts with my assistants’ opinion. Obviously, we want to start creating our roster with Polish players, because there are only several of those that I would be interested. Later we will think about the foreigners – added the head coach.
Being asked about the objectives for the following season, Adomaitis replied. – In sport, you mustn’t think like you can be the second or the third. In my philosophy, everyone has to feel inside that he wants to be the first, wants to be the champ. Thus I want to give the city of Wloclawek the team filled with ambitious players who will give them a real source of pride.
It is worth adding that Dainius Adomaitis was an extremely experienced player. Before he started working as a coach, he had been successful small forward who visited basketball arenas and courts all over Europe. Despite the fact he was making his first steps in Statyba Vilnius, his biggest successes are strictly bound with Zalgiris Kaunas – he achieved three championships of Lithuania and the highest trophy of Euroleague.
At the turn of the century, Adomaitis appeared in Poland and he signed a deal with Anwil Wloclawek. Before he left to Slask Wroclaw, he had finished that season as a runner-up with a silver medal on his neck. In Wroclaw Lithuanian forward celebrated two Polish championships in three years. Last years of his player career are tied with playing in French Gravelines Dunkerque and Latvian Barons Riga.
