Just a second to go Anwil Wloclawek was leading 83:81 being so close from tying up the series but phenomenal Giedrus Gustas sent the game to overtime right at the buzzer. Since then Trefl Sopot did not let the chance go away and winning 99:89 got promoted to the semi-final.
The guests were leading before the break by only one (43:44) so the hosts still believed in the final success which would prolong their chance to play in the play-offs next round. However, Filip Dylewicz and Pawel Kikowski moved that opportunity away as they made a series of points and Trefl had the margin of seven points - 64:57. What’s more, Polish forward added a couple of lay-ups a bit later and the team from Sopot was winning 70:62 six minutes to go.
Chris Thomas was the guy who did not survive and he firstly scored four points and made an assist to Paul Miller who cut almost the whole lead - 70:68. Next Bartlomiej Diduszko, who gave a lot of energy off the bench, added another basket, Andrzej Pluta used his most famous weapon and there was a draw – 73:73.
The guests lost control of the game and started to play very nervously in both: offense and defense so Nikola Jovanovic scored from behind the arch and Anwil broke the result (78:76). When Thomas made a jumper the fans started celebrating - the hosts were leading by three just a minute to go. Nevertheless it did not last for so long. Giedrius Gustas answered with another jumper while Dylewicz added two points to give his team an advantage of one (81:80) just when only 24 seconds left.
In some moment of their final action the hosts lost the ball but Lorinza Harrington fouled one of Anwil’s players so the fate gave Wloclawek team another chance to win. Thomas got the ball, passed his opponent and noticed Diduszko who was standing unmarked in the corner. Polish player got a pass and just a fad later he was right on target! Anwil was leading 83:81 and it seemed they will save their heads.
However, the guests had only a second left so the coach Karlis Muiznieks asked for a time-out and he could put his hands in the air just a moment later as Gustas made a jumper and sent the game to overtime right at the buzzer!
Anwil’s players were extremely disappointed and they couldn’t react properly in the additional team just being able to watch what Filip Dylewicz and the rest of their opponent were doing on the floor. Polish forward scored eight point in overtime and Trefl got promoted to the semi-final.
