Jerel Blassingame turned out to be a key-player for Asseco Prokom Gdynia. At the very beginning American playmaker realized that he is quicker and more mobile than Anwil’s point guard Krzysztof Szubarga and he used that advantage in each occasion he had. Altogether he finished the game with 16 points and five assists and led his team to the first victory in this season in Polish Tauron Basket Liga.
Next to Blassingame, Donatas Motiejunas and Przemyslaw Zamojski also played their parts. Lithuanian forward didn’t need to shine but despite he ticked over, he was able to score 16 points, while Polish shooting guard added 12 (10 in the third quarter). Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz had his contribution in team’s success as he gave a spark from the bench scoring 10 points.
After 20 minutes the hosts were leading just 38:32 so everything seemed to open. Nevertheless, the third quarter showed the champions’ potential as they played efficiently in both: offense and defense. Anwil were trying to cut the lead thanks to tree-point shots but unfortunately missed almost all of them – only 3-for-19 made in the whole game.
When the third quarter ended, the Gdynia team was leading by fifteen, 66:51 and the guests needed to abandon their hope. If it hadn’t been for Corsley Edwards, who scored 19 points, Anwil would have lost by a bigger advantage. Nick Lewis was a second-best scorer with nine points and John Allen added eight with six rebounds and three assists.
Dardan Berisha missed the game due to an injury. He suffers from a hip muscle strain.
