What a way to start the season in a home arena, “The Włocławek’s Fortress”, as fans named it before the game – Anwil Włocławek fought hard and beat Enea Zastal BC Zielona Góra 89:82.
Atmosphere in the Hala Mistrzów was unique – loud fans wanted the Rottweilers to win an important game with the second team of the last season. Despite high score on the board (45:41 for the opponents after the first half and 89:82 for Anwil after the final buzz), both teams showed good defense. Anwil’s players were precise (only seven turnovers in the game) and aggressive.
Jonah Mathews was a key player that night – he had 3/4 from the distance in the fourth quarter and helped the team to build the difference. When the rivals made a mistake and put the ball on out 10 seconds before the end, everyone knew who’s going to be the winner.
Jonah Mathews was Anwil’s best scorer. The point guard finished with 22 points (5/10 behind the Arc), four assists and two rebounds.
