Włocławek Basketball Club is excited to announce that experienced and successful Slovenian Dejan Mihevc became the new headcoach of Anwil Wloclawek.
It was just a year ago when Dejan Mihevc and his Polski Cukier Toruń, where he was a coach, battled against Anwil Włocławek. 42-year-old Slovenian took his medicine as his team lost 3:4 in the play-offs finals so if he still believes in becoming a champion in Poland one day, he will have a chance to do that in Włocławek.
Today, June 25, 2020, Dejan Mihevc was officially announced as the headcoach of the Rottweilers.
- Włocławek is one of the most basketball city in the world. The club has got a support from a great crowd of fans who never doubt in team, but always stand behind. For me, it's a great pleasure to have a chance to work in such a place as well as it's a great honor to be the part of such a great organization and history - comments the new headcoach.
Even though he is pretty young as a coach, Mihevc's experience is bigger than it seems. He started his coaching journey in basketball in his early twenties and a decade later, big successes came.
In 2012 he won NBL Division 1 championship in Great Britian with Essex Leopards London. Three years later he was a boss in a team that made a historic earthquake in Slovenia. Despite the fact in 2013/2014 Tajfun Sentjur was an underdog, a season later won the championship in Slovenia, with Mihevc at the steering wheel.
Dreaming about achieving trophies in Poland, Polski Cukier Toruń hired him in 2017 and Slovenian responded in the best way. During his two season there, Mihevc took bronze and silver medal and won Polish Cup and Polish Supercup.
- We wanted to hire a successful coach who knows Poland and Polish competition. Our research resulted with nothing but positives. Everyone whom we talked, underlines Mihevc's great work ethic, devotion and knowledge. Włocławek is a city with a hunger of success and Anwil is a club which aims high. Nothing changed with Dejan Mihevc at the helm - says the president of board, Arkadiusz Lewandowski.
- There is one thing fans can be sure. I will do my best and devote what it takes to continue the great era of successes. I have a great respect for what Anwil under Igor Milicic has done, however I hope to open a new great chapter - adds Mihevc.
Both sides signed a one-year-deal.
